Self-homodyne tomography: measurement of the photon statistics of parametric uorescence

چکیده
Photon distributions for parametric uorescence are measured using a novel self-homodyning technique. They exhibit thermal-like character as predicted by the theory. Self-homodyning automatically matches the signal mode with the local oscillator mode.

We present a homodyne detection scheme to verify Bell’s inequality on correlated optical beams at the output of a nondegenerate parametric amplifier. Our approach is based on tomographic measurement of the joint detection probabilities, which allows high quantum efficiency at detectors. A self-homodyne scheme is suggested to simplify the experimental set-up. Typeset using REVTEX 1
متن کاملHomodyne detection for measuring internal quantum correlations of optical pulses
A new method is described for determining the quantum correlations at different times in optical pulses by using balanced homodyne detection. The signal pulse and sequences of ultrashort test pulses are superimposed, where for chosen distances between the test pulses their relative phases and intensities are varied from measurement to measurement. The correlation statistics of the signal pulse ...
متن کاملMaximum likelihood estimation of photon number distribution from homodyne statistics
An interesting application of the homodyne detection is the measurement of phase–insensitive properties of optical fields, dependent on the photon number distribution [1]. The homodyne technique goes beyond the current limitations of direct photodetection. First, ultrafast sampling time can be achieved by using the local oscillator field in the form of a short pulse. Secondly, information on th...
متن کاملA bridge between the single-photon and squeezed-vacuum state
The two modes of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen quadrature entangled state generated by parametric down-conversion interfere on a beam splitter of variable splitting ratio. Detection of a photon in one of the beam splitter output channels heralds preparation of a signal state in the other, which is characterized using homodyne tomography. By controlling the beam splitting ratio, the signal state c...
متن کاملQuantum homodyne tomography of a two-photon Fock state.
We present a continuous-variable experimental analysis of a two-photon Fock state of free-propagating light. This state is obtained from a pulsed nondegenerate parametric amplifier, which produces two intensity-correlated twin beams. Counting two photons in one beam projects the other beam in the desired two-photon Fock state, which is analyzed by using a pulsed homodyne detection. The Wigner f...
